Our Story: A Passion for Innovation
The Stayfree® story begins in 1971 when a team of engineers at Personal Products Company (now McNeil PPC, Inc.) set their sights on improving feminine hygiene products. Drawing inspiration from the aerospace industry, they used an adhesive similar to what was being used on the Apollo space missions to create the first adhesive sanitary pad. This revolutionary Stayfree® Pad provided secure protection unlike anything else on the market.
Buoyed by the success of their adhesive pads, the Stayfree® team continued to innovate throughout the 1970s and beyond. They introduced the first pads with wings in 1975 to provide even better security and absorbency. The unique Stayfree® Air Channel Pad debuted in 1985, improving breathability and comfort through special air chambers.
